Joshua Tree national Park was founded in 1936 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and covers 792,510 acres.
I camped at the Back Rock campground in the far western part of the park. When I go back, I will stay at the Hidden Valley campsite in the middle of the park where the night skies are spectacular. No showers or hot water here.
I was able to spend the better part of two days and nights here and got some great pictures and memories. The second day I went through the West Entrance and went to Quail Springs, Hemmingway, Hidden Valley, Minerva Hoyt, Cap Rock, Barker Dam. I hiked each site, and it was a long 6 hours. (two Gatorades, 5 - 20 oz bottles of water and soaked my gator and long sleeve shirt with two more waters.
The rocks that you will see came from Magma years ago. As the granite cooled and crystalized underground, cracks formed horizontally and vertically. Eventually the surface soil eroded, leaving heaps of monzogranite scatter across the land like careless piles of toys.
